Also stop the service if the server isnвЂ™t rebooted. Setup a group policy preference to set the print spooler service to manual or disabled. Servers - Allow Print Spooler to accept client connections GPO setting to Disabled.

All settings and mitigations are deployed with group policy. It still works fine with proper mitigations in place. I am not seeing printer deployment as broken in my environment.

The results are not consistent with the old drivers but the new driver seems to still allow printing regardless after following the previously outlined process. Process is such -> Disable admin reqs in Registry-> map printers-> Re-enable admin reqs in registry-> Test prints. We've been testing by having an IT person map to 4 printers, two each with the driver and without the new driver. We're still testing this as our fix environment-wide.

Currently, after using a deploy to disable the registry entry, then re-mapping to the printer after switching to the GPD driver, it appears that you can safely re-enable the registry key and it will no longer prompt them for admin creds Some are using the user mode 3(4? Can't remember), PCL 6 individual machine driver. There is a registry key for 'Require admin for print drivers'Д¬urrently most of our devices are Xerox C8000/8100 series. Which if an attacker has managed to compromise our print servers they are likely well past caring about PrintNightmare.ДЇor our shop, everything but the GPO was already in place long before PrintNightmare. This effectively limits a PrintNightmare risk to a compromise of our print servers.

GPO restricting point and print to only our specified print servers.

Host based and physical firewalls blocking SMB outbound to the Internet.

Firewalls in place to block SMB traffic from user segments into server segments for everything but the few servers that users need to be able to access over SMB.

Print spooler disabled on all servers that aren't print servers.

Unless I am missing something about this attack, it seems to me that standard security baselining techniques effectively neutralize PrintNightmare with no patching required. I disagree that there is no middle ground between breaking printing and being secure or just accepting the risk.
